Passionate about learning in its widest sense.
Whether you’re an existing academy student, or you’re hoping to join from another school, I offer you a warm welcome to the Sixth Form at Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby.
I hope your time with us will be valuable, enjoyable and rewarding and that your experience of the Sixth Form will be memorable. I want you to be successful and fully prepared for the next stage of your life journey, whether this is further education or the world of work. The academy will ensure that you receive high-quality teaching, lots of support and guidance and that you’re provided with the equipment and facilities which will enhance your opportunities. But this alone won’t be enough: you’ll need to work hard, be organised and fully committed to your studies.
Whilst we’re still a school, the Sixth Form is different – there’s a distinct uniform, a place for you to gather as a year group, an expectation that you’ll take much greater ownership of your own learning and an opportunity to develop a sense of identity and belonging.
We have high expectations of all our Sixth Form students and we encourage you to be as involved as possible in all aspects of academy life. We expect you’ll play an active role in supporting and leading younger students to success and acting as role models in terms of behaviour, attitude and presentation.
Over the next two years of Sixth Form, you’ll form close friendships, develop excellent working relationships with your teachers and fully involve yourself in many aspects of academy life. This will generate enjoyment, fun and a sense of belonging, but you must remember it’s also requiring hard work and determination.

Haberdashers’ West Midlands Academies Trust 16-19 Bursary
The 16 to 19 Bursary fund is a scheme made available from the government through the Department for Education for 16-19 year olds – to provide assistance to students whose access to, or completion of, education is inhibited by financial constraints or barriers. The 16-19-year-old bursary scheme has been put in place as a replacement for the former Education Maintenance Allowance.
Students may be able to access support for essential course related costs such as books, equipment, uniform, school meals, transport and curriculum related trips. Further guidance can be sought from the finance team.
There are two types of 16 to 19 bursaries:
- Vulnerable bursaries of up to £1,200 a year for young people in one of the defined vulnerable groups and will be based on course participation costs and actual financial need.
- Discretionary bursaries, that institutions award to meet individual needs, are based on an assessment of income, participation costs and actual financial need.
Key Stage 5 Curriculum
Whilst we operate a very inclusive sixth form we take great care to ensure that students are placed on courses that allow them the opportunity to succeed.
Most students take 3 Level 3 qualifications in Year 12 that they continue through to Year 13, however, there are also a number of students from a whole range of secondary schools who need to resit either their English and/or maths GCSEs.
