Passionate about learning in its widest sense.

Our mission is to inspire and empower every pupil to value and enjoy their learning, both within and beyond the classroom, by cultivating a vibrant and supportive community focused on Aspiration, Respect, and Excellence.

As a school we aim to:

Achieve academic excellence by cultivating intellectual curiosity and challenging and supporting pupils to reach their full potential (Excellence)

Develop independent and resilient learners who are fully equipped for the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities for life in the 21st century (Aspiration)

Live Our Shared Values, creating an environment where all members of our school community feel respected, valued and safe (Respect)

Our Year based system is the lifeblood of the academy. This provides a supportive and nurturing environment, promotes participation and belonging and offers a range of opportunities for students to demonstrate leadership. Older pupils help to organise and run events, leading by example and modelling our shared values of aspiration, respect and excellence.

We have an extensive sporting, creative and academic extra-curricular programme, allowing pupils to work with others in teams and build strong relationships with their peers and staff.

Our School Day

The school day begins at 08:30. It’s essential that students are punctual as this is the beginning of the daily mentor session, during which our pupils are involved in a range of activities including active citizenship, assemblies, personal development, reflection and reading. There’s also a chance to catch up on important announcements, celebrate success, check on attendance and punctuality and to talk to their mentor. The mentor is also the ‘go-to’ member of staff for any queries that parents or carers might have.

The first ten minutes of any lesson are critical as this is where the plan for the lesson is laid out, where the teacher is able to gauge prior knowledge of a topic and check levels of understanding from previous lessons.

Please Note: No holidays should be taken during the school’s term time.

Our Community

Our students are fully equipped for the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities of adult life in the 21st century and well prepared to be the leaders, professionals and parents of tomorrow.

In order to build on our community relationships, we work closely with our local primary schools. We’ve been able to offer a wide range of programmes and projects to enable students to experience secondary school life early on, thus building confidence for when the time comes to progress to Year 7.

Governance

The Haberdashers’ Company takes great interest and pride in all the schools of which it is Trustee ensuring that the revenues accruing are spent wisely and that building projects give good value for money.

Health & Wellbeing

At Abraham Darby, mental health is just as important as physical. Social-emotional development is a child’s ability to understand the feelings of others, control their own feelings and behaviours, and get along with peers.
