At Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby, we aim to support every student with their emotional health and wellbeing. This includes promoting positive mental health. As a staff body, we approach this in various ways, through our pastoral support system and tutorial programs through INSIGHT lessons. A young person’s time spent at school is an opportunity for us to ensure they have the skills, knowledge and attitudes they’ll need now and for the future, to preserve their mental health and how to seek help if needed.
Online courses for parents/carers and staff about children’s physical, emotional and brain development have been prepaid in this area, making £88 worth of content FREE for residents of Telford! These courses don’t lecture, they explain psychological and neuroscience in jargon-free bite-sized chunks. Highly recommended for all!

E-Safety
Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby is able to offer students high-speed access to our network. Every pupil has an individual user area which is accessible using their username and password. Each pupil is responsible for keeping their password secret, ensuring that other students can’t access their files. Staff have access to pupils’ user areas.
The network is monitored constantly by software that is designed to protect students from inappropriate content. We also use Impero software that allows staff to monitor the use of the network throughout lessons and to be able to share files with pupils.

Social, Emotional & Mental Health
Social-emotional development is a child’s ability to understand the feelings of others, control their own feelings and behaviours and get along with peers.
Feelings of trust, confidence, pride, friendship, affection and humour are all a part of a child’s social-emotional development.

Healthy Lifestyles
Improved levels of health and wellbeing for pupils through increasing physical activity are shown to have a positive impact on academic achievement, cognitive functioning, behaviour, concentration, self-esteem and attendance.
Children are spending less time moving and more time sitting! It’s time to develop children’s physical literacy to turn the tide of inactivity and ensure that children learn and use the tools to grow into healthy, active, resilient individuals.

Child Protection & Safeguarding
Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby recognises our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We’ll endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We’ll be alert to the signs of abuse and maltreatment and will follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. The procedures contained in the Child Protection and Safeguarding policy apply to all staff and governors and are consistent with those of the local Safeguarding Children Board.
The school’s Child Protection Officer and Child Sexual Exploitation Lead is Mrs Isobel Williams who should be the first point of contact in the event of any concerns regarding child protection or child sexual exploitation issues.
