What will I study?

The course is taught by two members of staff and they take responsibility for their own units. Unit 1 & 2 are both assessed externally and you have three attempts with the highest grade out of the three being counted.

Year 12 – Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology
Year 12 -Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health and Sport Well-being

How Flexible Is The Course?

All students are enrolled on the extended certificate (1 A-level) but can include a further three units to move onto the foundation diploma (1.5 A levels). Timings of the course delivery can also be flexible.

Usually students sit their first examinations at the end of year 12 (June) this however can be moved forward to January if students are ready. In year 13 some pupils are able to work through the coursework elements quicker than others. This enables them to complete the course sooner and focus on other subjects.

Does Practical Ability Count Towards My Grades?

In short the answer is No. The fact you might be a county athlete doesn’t add to your grades directly.

However it is usually the students that play sport to a good level that can apply their knowledge to sport and gain higher marks within the assessments. With also doing the leadership unit these students have benefited from being coached regularly and can apply theory to practical.
