Safeguarding and Child Protection

Safeguarding our young people, our staff and our visitors

Safeguarding Policy

Our Core Principles

The policy is one of a series in the school’s integrated safeguarding portfolio. Our core safeguarding principles are as follows:

  • The Academy’s responsibility to promote the welfare of children is of paramount importance,
  • Safer children make more successful learners,
  • Representatives of the Academy community of pupils, parents/carers, staff and governors will be involved in policy development and review,
  • Policies will be reviewed annually, unless an incident, new legislation, or guidance suggests the need for an interim review.

Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby recognises our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We will endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We will be alert to the signs of abuse and maltreatment and will follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection, and justice. The procedures contained in the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy apply to all staff and governors and is consistent with the arrangements of the local Safeguarding Partnership for protecting children.

Collaborative Working

Our pastoral, SEND, behaviour, mental health/well-being and safeguarding teams all work together to secure the best outcomes for our young people and their families. We consider all the possible factors that could affect a young person’s decision making or circumstances.

Staff and Governors at Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby want every student to fulfil their full potential. In order for this to happen, we ensure that wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do.
We recognise that life isn’t always easy and there will be times when every family experiences ‘a difficult patch’. Watching your child grow into a resilient determined young adult is exciting but can also be challenging. We are here for you through the challenging times as well as the exciting ones.
Support and guidance is available to families through our ‘HADSafe’ offer. Working together we can prevent small problems from escalating into bigger ones.
Our offer to you includes a range of strategies and initiatives:

Contextual Safeguarding

Here at the Academy we use a variety of services to create awareness and educate pupils about exploitation. We have comprehensive resources within our INSIGHT programme and assembly themes with some delivered by external organisations. Some of our major partners include CLIMB and St Giles. We use the Telford and Wrekin Child Exploitation Risk Threshold Indicator and the Child Exploitation Pathway to support with decision making.
