All students are inspired to reach their full potential.
Key Stage 3
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed around our six core principles. We want students to:
- Know and Recall More
- Participate
- Show Resilience
- Speak Impressively
- Read Impressively
- Write Impressively
The intent of our Key Stage 3 curriculum is to provide students with a broad and balanced education that allows them to enjoy learning, increase their knowledge and have access to the best that is thought and said.
Key Stage 4
At the end of Year 9, students will continue with the core curriculum subjects (Maths, English, Science and practical PE) and choose four option subjects that they will study until the end of Year 11.
All students will take GCSEs in Mathematics, English language, English literature and Science (the majority of students will take a double science award with separate sciences being an option for those students showing a particular talent in this area). All students will also have core PE lessons but this isn’t an examination subject.
The Ebacc
The English Baccalaureate – though not a qualification in itself – is a measure of success in core academic subjects; specifically English, Mathematics, History or geography, the sciences and a language. Students have to achieve grade 5 or higher to get this qualification in all five of the subject areas.
These are subjects most likely to be required or preferred for entry to university degree courses and ones that will keep the most doors open for students in the future.
The top universities in the country are grouped together in an organisation called the Russell Group. There are 24 of them. These universities like to see that students have a broad range of subjects and would want students to achieve high grades in most of the EBacc subject areas.
Careers Advice
As part of our preparation for their next steps, we’ve given our students access to a careers platform which has information about careers, the routes to take and labour market information.
This is a subscription site so students will need to log in, they should have a sticker with the login details inside their planner. Please click the link below to access the site:
