Year 9 Options

What will I study?

The WJEC Eduqas GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition equips learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating.

 

It encourages learners to cook, enables them to make informed decisions about food and nutrition and allows them to acquire knowledge in order to be able to feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously, now and later in life

How Will I Study This Subject?

How Will I Earn Marks For My Final Grade?

You will complete a written and practical assignment with a timed practical
examination during the first part of the course. The theme of this assignment
changes every year.

You will complete a longer and more complex practical assignment with a longer timed practical examinations during the latter part of the course.
This accounts for 50% of the final grade.

A written examination taken at the end of the course accounts for 50%.

How Will This Subject Help Me In The Future?

If you want to work in The Catering and Hospitality industry or within The Diet and Nutrition field the course provides good background knowledge and skills. People will always need to eat and maintain good health, so there will always be jobs in these sector.

Even if you are not considering a future in the catering industry the development of practical skills and knowledge of food ingredients can only be beneficial to later life and well being.
