What will I study?
The world is awash with data. It is estimated that 2.5×1018 bytes of data are created every day. Economies increasingly are data dependent and use data-intensive technologies, the use of data is clearly evident all around us in areas such as government, finance, manufacturing, health, education, media, banking, retail, science, sports, …
The ability to make sense of data is an essential skill for working life and full citizenship in a modern society. This course will give you the skills you need to begin to understand how to collect, process, analyse and interpret data and understand how probability and chance are linked to data in ways that make sense.
How Will I Study This Subject?
How Will I Earn Marks For My Final Grade?
The GCSE is assessed through two equally weighted external examinations at the end of the course.
How Will This Subject Help Me In The Future?
The subject focuses on how statistics are used in the ‘real world’ and you may be surprised how widely useful they actually are.
You will learn about the strengths and limitations of statistics in realistic scenarios that won’t have you begging the question “When will I ever use this knowledge again?”
Many of the concepts in the course are also touched on in GCSE Mathematics so the Statistics course is also useful to help improve your understanding of the Maths GCSE.
In addition to this many students who go on to study A-Levels in subjects such as Psychology, Business, Geography, Biology, Applied Science etc. find that their lack of statistical understanding is a real disadvantage to their progress; this course provides a strong platform from which to analyse and interpret data from a range of A-Level courses.
