What will I study?
In addition to studying all the content from the Combined Science you will study additional material:
- Biology: Protein production, Controlling Photosynthesis, Hormonal controls, Brain biology, Genetic Engineering
- Chemistry: Transition metals, alloys and corrosion, quantitative analysis, hydrocarbons, nanoparticles, polymers, alcohols and carboxylic acids
- Physics: Complex pressure examples, medical physics, astrophysics and rotational forces
How Will I Study This Subject?
How Will I Earn Marks For My Final Grade?
- All GCSEs will be linear qualifications, with exams taking place at the end of Year 11
- There will be Foundation and Higher tiers, and these will be reported using new 9-1 grading system
- There will be no coursework in the new GCSEs, you will formally complete a set of prescribed practicals that will form part of the exam
- Format for exams is similar to combined science with students taking 2 papers per science subject with a 50% weighting for each. The papers are 1 hour and 45 minutes to reflect the extra content that has been taught

The separate sciences route is an excellent foundation for students wishing to progress into careers with a strong scientific focus.
