Whether you are an existing Academy student, or you are hoping to join from another school, I offer you a warm welcome to the Sixth Form at Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby.
I hope your time with us will be valuable, enjoyable and rewarding and that your experience of the Sixth Form will be memorable. I want you to be successful and fully prepared for the next stage of your life journey, whether this is Higher/Further Education or the world of work. The Academy will ensure that you receive high quality teaching, lots of support and guidance and that you are provided with the equipment and facilities which will enhance your opportunities. But this alone will not be enough: you will need to work hard, be organised and fully committed to your studies.
Whilst we are still a school, the Sixth Form is different – there is a distinct uniform, a place for you to gather as a year group, an expectation that you will take much greater ownership of your own learning and an opportunity to develop a sense of identity and belonging.
We have high expectations of all our Sixth Form students and we encourage you to be as involved as possible in all aspects of Academy life. We expect you will play an active role in supporting and leading younger students to success and acting as role models in terms of behaviour, attitude and presentation.
Over the next two years of Sixth Form, you will form close friendships, develop excellent working relationships with your teachers and fully involve yourself in many aspects of Academy life. This will generate enjoyment, fun and a sense of belonging, but you must remember it is also requiring hard work and determination.

Choosing your Courses
The Prospectus is available on the website which will help you find out more about each subject. Subjects that you choose should depend on your predicted GCSE grades, your career aims and your subject preferences. If you require advice on your subject choices, please contact the sixth form team on the email above.
Application
Once you have applied, you will be invited for an interview to discuss your subject choices – this usually takes place in January. Offers of places will be made in late February. Applicants who wish to accept the offer of a place will return the acceptance slip attached to their offer letter. The application form can be found here
Enrolment
Students enrol on results day in August following receipt of their GCSE results. This is when you will have a second meeting with a member of staff to review subject choices. All students need to meet the entry requirements for the Sixth Form for their chosen subjects. It is possible to change subjects from original choices if this fits on the timetable and if there is space on the courses.

Haberdashers’ West Midlands Academies Trust 16-19 Bursary
What is the 16-19 Bursary Fund?
The 16 to 19 Bursary fund is a scheme made available from the government through the Department for Education for 16-19 year olds – to aid students whose access to, or completion of, education is inhibited by financial constraints or barriers. The 16-19 year old bursary scheme has been put in place as a replacement for the former Education Maintenance Allowance.
There are two types of 16 to 19 bursaries:
- Vulnerable bursaries of up to £1,200 a year for young people in one of the defined vulnerable groups.
- Discretionary bursaries that institutions award to meet individual needs (discretionary bursaries are targeted to students who cannot stay in education without financial help for things like transport, meals, books and equipment).
Application forms and guidance will be handed out when you commence your time at the Academy.
