Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby is able to offer students high speed access to our network. Every pupil has an individual user area which is accessible using their username and a password. Each pupil is responsible for keeping their password secret, ensuring that other students cannot access their files. Staff have access to pupils’ user areas.
The network is monitored constantly by software that is designed to protect students from inappropriate content. Additionally we also use Impero software that allows staff to monitor use of the network throughout lessons and to be able to share files with pupils.
There is an Acceptable Use Policy in place which outlines pupil’s responsibilities when using the system:
- The school has installed computers and Internet access to help our learning.
- These rules will keep everyone safe and help us be fair to others.
- I will only access the system with my own login and password, which I will keep secret.
- I will not access other people’s files.
- I will only use the computers for school work and for homework.
- I will not bring in CD’s, memory sticks or other computer media from outside school unless I have been given permission.
- I will only e-mail people I know, or that my teacher has approved.
- The messages I send will be polite and responsible.
- I will not give my home address or telephone number, or arrange to meet someone.
- I will report any unpleasant material or messages sent to me to a member of staff.
- I understand my report would be confidential and would help protect other pupils and myself.
- I understand that the school will check my computer files and will monitor the Internet sites I visit.
Parental Guidance:
The use of the internet offers many fantastic opportunities, not only for education but for entertainment and keeping up with friends. However social media in particular seems to lead to many issues.
Young people do not always realise that anything they post to sites such as Facebook and Twitter are instantly beyond their control and can be readily redistributed by anyone else. Even tools such as Snapchat, where the image is supposed to delete after a short time are not safe as the person receiving it may quickly screenshot the image.
In recent years there have been a number of high profile cases of Social Network abuse. These are offences under laws such as The Malicious Communications Act and The Computer Misuse Act.
